This Is Us season 2: Mandy Moore, Milo Ventimiglia, more get bonuses

Mandy MooreWhen we win, everybody wins. This seems to be the strategy of NBC and studio 20th Century Fox when it comes to This Is Us and its cast.

According to Entertainment Weekly, Milo Ventimiglia, Mandy Moore, Sterling K. Brown, and many of the show’s other main adult cast members today received a hefty bonus to the tune of $250,000 for their roles in making the show the mega-hit that it is throw one season. This has allowed This Is Us to become one of the top-rated network shows out there, and beyond that, it has enabled NBC to have all sorts of awards consideration thrown its way. This is a show that is giving credibility to network TV at a time when it felt as though that was starting to die off, and they want these cast members to feel rewarded for much of it.

There is also probably a little bit of something more at play here when it comes to the cast bonuses beyond just a sheer reward, though: This is a smart move on the part of both the network and the studio down the road as a sign of good faith in negotiations. In the event that This Is Us becomes the sort of show that lasts for many years, these actors are going to command big raises. Rewarding now signals that you have plans to reward them later, and it conducts a very positive work environment for all of them.

While we know that it’s super-easy to be cynical about people receiving a ton of money these days, we really don’t have any problem with it in this case given that we’re talking here about people who really have worked hard to find their place within the industry. Just hearing about Chrissy Metz and her story should be enough to inspire many people out there.

This Is Us season 2 is going to be premiering at some point in the fall; it was already confirmed that there will be a third season of the show coming up, so there isn’t any immediate need for anyone out there to be worried about its future. Personally, we’re very excited to see a little bit more of what lies ahead for these characters, and we’re equally excited to see what the season 2 ratings for the show will ultimately be given that there have been so many opportunities for new viewers to discover the show and binge it over the past several months. Odds are, this is a show that is going to be making it well past a season 3 on NBC.
