What will the Shadowhunters season 2 finale bring Malec? (video)

Malec

For anyone out there interested in getting a sense as to where Malec stands in the Shadowhunters season 2 finale, we’ve got a preview!

In the sneak peek below, you can see a basic outline of the current state of things. Alec wants Magnus’ help, and seems far more receptive to working something out than Magnus does. After the betrayal, he’s retreated, and feels more set in his old ways that love isn’t worth whatever eventual heartbreak comes his way. Magnus is someone who has a difficult time opening up, and it’s made even worse by him knowing that eventually he will outlive Alec and that will come with its own set of emotional consequences. If he is going to deal with that devastation down the road, he wants to know that the journey is ultimately going to be worth it.

The first thing that is touched on within this preview is Alec informing Magnus of everything that’s been going on, including the Seelie Queen – Valentine alliance and some of the danger that exists with that. He also discusses further what’s going on when it comes to Izzy and the rift — she’s found a way to seal out demons, but they need some help from a warlock. Therefore, they’re turning to a sorcerer for help.

With Magnus currently in the midst of the Downworlder / Shadowhunter conflict, what we’re seeing him do at present is do just about everything that he can to use that as a mask. He doesn’t want to handle some of the pain that he feels, and we think that this is both a convenient excuse and a way that he can personally keep his focus on something else. It’s smart for him if his priority is to keep his eye on a different prize for a little while. Still, we imagine that this has to be VERY frustrating for both Alec and everyone else who wants him back around.

Hopefully, this finale offers up some temporary peace to everyone in the midst of the conflict brewing, and also Valentine being on the run and stirring up all sorts of danger with the Mortal Instruments. While it’s true that there is also still Jonathan out there, the team should just focus on Valentine for the time being and then deal with him in the event that he does become a problem again. It’s possible that Will Tudor’s character could be involved in some sort of cliffhanger, given that the show got its season 3 renewal a while ago and it makes sense that the folks over at Freeform would want to make a good cliffhanger to keep you waiting until the new year.
