Ray Donovan season 5 episode 2 spoilers: Ray, Abby’s mission and more

Ray Donovan season 5 episode 2 is going to be airing on Showtime Sunday night, and at the center of the story will be Abby. However, it’s certainly not happening in the way in which you would’ve imagined one season ago.

(Obviously, there are some MAJOR spoilers ahead if you haven’t seen the premiere yet. Read on with caution.)

During the season 5 premiere, we learned for the first time that the character of Abby was dead, and that she had passed as a result of the cancer that she previously was diagnosed with. That is of course an emotional loss for Ray — it changes his entire life, but in ways that he won’t immediate realize. Death is the sort of thing that often does take a while to settle in, and it often doesn’t make itself clear right away. With a little bit of time and the right circumstances, the true measure of pain is eventually felt.

Will being around his family bring some of these memories and pain back? Well, it’s certainly possible given that gatherings can somehow make you feel more alone. With that being said, there are going to be some other struggles that we could end up seeing between him and other members of his family — they always were known for their opinions, weren’t they? Well, they’re also known for fighting with each other when some of these opinions spiral out of control.

The story for Abby

Maybe we’re going to see a great deal of flashbacks this season so that we can understand a little bit further as to the love that was once there between her and Ray, and some of the most notable memories from their past.

What we know is coming on Sunday night’s new episode between them is a jaunt in Las Vegas that goes terribly awry thanks to Terry getting himself arrested over an incident that transpired at a brothel. All of a sudden, their anniversary starts to fall by the wayside. We do wonder if one of Ray’s biggest regrets is continuing to choose either business or dealing with his family over his marriage and those closest to him — seeing flashbacks will explore that further, or it could also end up providing even more context into some events that end up happening this season. After all, we’re still fairly early in the midst of it at the moment.
