Ray Donovan season 5 ratings; also, Power season 4, World of Dance finale

Ray Donovan season 5

The first Ray Donovan season 5 ratings are in, and we gotta say that it’s by and large great news for the show and Showtime!

For the premiere, the Liev Schreiber led series drew in total 1.13 million viewers, a slight increase from what it had for the season 4 premiere. (This is premium cable, so the 18-49 ratings don’t really matter all that much here.) Given that Ray Donovan was forced into heavy competition, which included both Game of Thrones and Power, we don’t know how the network is anything other than thrilled with this. Also, remember that this is just a small slice of the show’s overall ratings, given that there are streams, repeats, live+3 data, and more that will be added to the total.

If Ray Donovan keeps this up, there is little reason to think that the show ends before it gets a season 6 on the network.

As for some other ratings highlights from the past few days…

How did Power season 4 fare with this new competition?

To date, the Starz drama has been very much a solid player. It remains that way with this past broadcast. The show posted 1.69 million viewers, a small decrease from the past few weeks but still very much solid. The show is down just under 13% in live viewers this season, but it does have more competition. It’s also still more than fine given that it’s already been renewed for another season and there are so many other viewing methods to think about in terms of its numbers. It’s found its audience now, and so long as the show remains as intense and exciting as it’s been, it has nothing to worry about in terms of its long-term future.

The World of Dance finale soars

Great news for the end of the Jennifer Lopez – Derek Hough dance competition, as it found a way to impress one more time this summer. The finale generated a 2.0 rating in the demo and also 8.3 million viewers. Both are nice improvements from the year before, and that gives you a good sense that the show has momentum leading into season 2.

We do stand by what we said yesterday in that World of Dance is really the breakout hit of the entire summer. Some shows have drawn better ratings, but this is the one that shattered some of our expectations the most.
