Power season 4 episode 8 spoilers: How is Tommy handling father reveal?

When Power season 4 episode 8 airs on Starz in just six days’ time, one of the big expectations that we have is that Tommy’s father will be key to the story. The just learned the truth about his paternity … or at least what this man (Terisi) claims to be the truth. The one thing that Tommy shouldn’t deny is that this man went pretty far out of his way in order to get the message to him — why else do that? Given that there’s not much he can do to him behind bars (he doesn’t even know him otherwise), there does need to be some sort of additional motivation.

Joseph Sikora has been giving a pretty killer performance as Tommy all season, and we expect that to continue as the character wrestles with this news. In speaking further on the matter to Entertainment Weekly, he does do a great job setting up what the central struggle for Tommy could be from here:

“I think Tommy is incredibly skeptical. He has grown up in southside Jamaica, Queens, where trusting Caucasians as family, to be quite honest, is a difficult prospect for him because that’s not what he grew up with — his mother included. So he’s very, very skeptical. We’ve heard Tommy with semi-derogatory remarks against Italians, as well, since that’s competition. That’s not the demographic he’s learned to trust. That said, he’s curious. Like most people, Tommy is an ever-curious person; he listens well and he learns from his mistakes, but he also suffers hard from his shortcomings and has a hard time advancing. So we’re dealing with a lot of that stuff with the phone call and the possibilities from it.”

Could Tommy travel to see other family members for answers? Certainly, but there is no incentive for them to tell the truth. It’s not like Terisi is getting out of prison tomorrow and will clue everyone in or threaten them. He’s going to remain there. Tommy has to just figure out what the right thing for Tommy is, and that’s choosing to pursue this further or determining that he doesn’t quite need to know and he could move forward to some other things.

The issue for Tommy there is that he’s not the sort of guy who excels when it comes to letting things go. Once he’s got a certain feeling on a given subject, he’s going to continue to pursue that until he eventually figures out a way to get answers. He may get them here, but they may not be the answers that he wants — and he may react accordingly and in a way that is very indicative of this character and who he is.
