Big Brother 19 episode 13 review: Jessica & Cody versus the world

Big Brother 19 episode 13

Big Brother 19 episode 13 was a true testament is just how entertaining the show can be, even when you already know the results from the feeds.

In terms of drama, story, and comedy, the Head of Household Competition tonight was phenomenal. Even though we don’t think that Jessica & Cody are the most likable people in the game, it was super-impressive seeing the two of them compete against the entire house. That’s even more so when you consider the punishments that were sent their way by some of the other players.

Also, there was the punishment known as Josh trying to troll the heck out of them by shouting at them, trying to make the insult “meatball” happen even though Cody looks nothing like one, and being an overall nuisance. Josh is incredibly immature, but he is also fantastic casting. He’s gotta be the messiest houseguest this side of Devin and we hope that he makes it far just for the antics.

As for Jessica and Cody, having different sides of the house is fun and we’ve got no problem with the two being in power. MASSIVE kudos to Christmas, though, who delivered something tonight that was impressive beyond measure. Just think for a moment in terms of her staying up on her platform holding that red light for almost THREE HOURS. Meanwhile, Kevin, Mark, and Paul barely had a minute combined between them. She’s becoming one of our favorites just because of the way that she competes — she’s also not a bad player beyond that. She came close to winning HoH as a result of it.

The nominations

This is where things started to get a little more interesting for “Jody.” Obviously, Jessica was going to nominate Josh because he’s an easy target. However, her mistake here is that the odds of Josh seemingly winning anything all season are fairly slim. He’s not good at endurance, and he probably is too scatterbrained for memory tasks. He’s a wasted nominee unless your only goal is just to preserve your whole sanity.

So … why nominate Ramses of all people? Huge miscalculation since he’s not a threat to anyone, and nobody’s all that attached to them. Even if the goal was to get rid of Paul this week, he stays over either one of these guys. (Apparently, getting rid of Josh is the plan for the time being.)

On a more humorous note, there was something enjoyable that came out of watching some of the various houseguests for the better part of around ten minutes pretend to trust Cody and Jessica, while in turn Cody and Jessica pretended to trust them. Nothing was actually accomplished at all over the process. The only actual moment of interest was Cody telling Josh to go away rather than speaking with Jessica, which was expected given the relationship that they have.

The Final Verdict

The biggest issue with episode #13 story-wise was that there wasn’t enough time spent watching Cody and Jessica actually strategize themselves, and get to the place where Ramses was their second nominee over anyone else (all we saw was a few seconds of it). It’s such a strange choice that it would’ve been nice to understand that better.

Otherwise, all of the other craziness in this episode (mostly Josh and some comedic editing) made this a worthwhile watch. Grade: A-.
