Outlander season 3: New Sam Heughan photo and more

Sam Heughan photo

At the moment, we’re absolutely getting spoiled when it comes to Outlander season 3 — the latest Sam Heughan photo is further proof.

This image (see the bottom of this article) was first shared by Entertainment Weekly, and it highlights a time in Jamie Fraser’s timeline that we haven’t seen explored as much in either the teaser or the trailer that have been released so far: How he is handling the years that have transpired since Culloden. He is a wayward soul, desperate to find himself and also understand how he moves forward. Apparently, a big part of his process is growing an insane beard and traveling about with Fergus. It’s a very cool photo just because it’s such a striking image, one that is night-and-day from the Jamie Fraser we have seen and experienced since the start of the series on Starz.

In speaking about this photo and Jamie’s journey, Heughan had the following to say to the aforementioned publication:

“He’s not himself for maybe six episodes … He didn’t expect to live. He went into the battle to die. He goes on a big journey from realizing that he’s still alive to finding a balance in staying alive to finding out who he is without Claire.”

The emotional journey that is so interesting for Jamie here is that he’s going to go from finding out who he is without Claire to then finding out who he is with Claire once more after the two reunite. Starz knows that they have a passionate, incredibly-memorable scene coming in the Print Shop — it’s such that they’ve based their entire Comic-Con booth around it, and that it is teased at the very end of the trailer. This will be the jumping-off point for everything else in the season, and that includes eventually the voyage to Jamaica and everything else that was filmed with Heughan, Caitriona Balfe, and the rest of the cast and crew were down in South Africa.

Other odds and ends to know

This morning, Sam did a quick Twitter Q&A while he was getting ready to hop on a flight on his way to the convention. There are some fun responses in here about his work on his upcoming film The Spy Who Dumped Me and more, so we definitely recommend checking that out if you haven’t already.

Also, to further amplify the Print Shop torment, Sam did post the image below at the very end of the Q&A.

Also, the unfortunate news coming out today is that due to his filming commitments, Sam is no longer attending the Highlanders 2 convention in Blackpool next month. Filming schedules change all of the time, so this is nothing more than an unfortunate switch-around. Sam does do a good job of fitting in various conventions into his schedule, so we’re sure that he will have even more coming in the future. We just hope people aren’t too hard on him for it, since he clearly wanted to be there and sometimes, things just don’t work out.

Given that this is Comic-Con weekend and Outlander does have a panel there, rest assured that there’s going to be all sorts of news coming at the link here. (Photo: Starz.)
