Supergirl season 3, Legends of Tomorrow filming officially begins

Legends of Tomorrow filming

Earlier this week, filming began for the fourth season of The Flash. Now, Supergirl and Legends of Tomorrow filming is upon us.

Both of these CW shows are now starting the lengthy production process in Vancouver, and they will continue to do so for a rather long time. Technically, Supergirl will film for a substantially longer period of time, one brought on by the fact that it’s airing more episodes overall than Legends of Tomorrow is. (That show tends to have a slightly shorter order.)

One of the things that is already rather interesting about the start of Legends of Tomorrow season 3 is that they are filming out of order. Show executive producer Marc Guggenheim confirmed that when he shared the title from the second episode of the season. Why do this? There are a couple of different reasons of it.

1. Actor availability – It’s possible that they have a guest star for either the premiere or second season who is only available for a given period of time, and they are shooting this way in order to work around their schedule.

2. Location availability – This is also true sometimes where there may be a place that a show wants to use, but they have to work around everything else that is happening. Locations aren’t just there available to used at any second of the time! There are certain times in which they can be used, and then certain times in which there are other things going on.

We should note that this is also far from the first time in which a CW show has filmed out of order — this is actually something that happens on a fairly regular basis when it comes to Supernatural.

There isn’t a whole lot known about the story for Legends of Tomorrow season 3 other than that the entire timeline is a bit of a hot mess now that the Legends toyed with it in order to stop Eobard Thawne and the Legion of Doom at the end of the second season.

What about the Supergirl season 3 story?

What is known right now is that Odette Annable will play the Big Bad in Reign, and that you’ll be seeing a whole lot more of Katie McGrath as Lena Luthor. There’s a little bit more in the way of clarity regarding what some of the earlier episodes are going to look like here than there is for Legends of Tomorrow, but there are still some mysteries. For example, what is the show planning to do with Chris Wood? As of now, Mon-El is off somewhere after being jettisoned in the battle against Rhea, but there is no confirmation that he is leaving the show.

Excited for the shows to be back in production?
