Psych: The Movie spoilers: Charlotte Flair cast in villainous role

Charlotte Flair

Just in case Zachary Levi was not enough evil for you on Psych: The Moviewe’ve also got a WWE superstar in Charlotte Flair to add to the mix.

As first reported to TV Guide, Flair is going to make her scripted TV acting debut on the Christmas event in the role of Heather Rockrear, a cheekily-named second-in-command to Thin White Dude (Levi). There’s not a whole lot of news available at the moment about what Thin White Dude / Rockrear’s motivations are, but in general these characters have more of a comic-book feel than the standard Psych villain. Typically with this show, you don’t get a chance to know in advance who the bad guys are — that’s typically something that you find out over the course of the episode. It’s possible that this will be one of those stories where the audience knows more than Shawn and Gus do, and they spend the movie playing a bit of creative catch-up.

Getting Flair on the show is exciting for a few different reasons, starting with the fact that she is a multi-time WWE Women’s Champion and is extremely well-known in that world. She’s also the daughter of Ric Flair, so she has some of that nostalgic appeal, as well.

There is also a longstanding history between Psych and the WWE that stems from a lot of cross-promotion over the years. James Roday and Dule Hill have appeared at various events over the years, and many wrestling superstars have appeared on Psych, as well. It’s a pretty impressive list that includes The Big Show, The Miz, John Cena, Brie & Nikki Bella, Stacy Keibler, and Mickie James. It feels like in one way or another Psych: The Movie is honoring the original show’s legacy in a wide array of ways, and having a famous wrestling star appear is just a part of it. It’s a fun show, and wrestling often captures a little bit of that same over-the-top tone.

Now, the biggest challenge is just waiting to see the movie actually air. We’ve waited ever since the end of season 8 for more Psych, and when you consider that much of that waiting felt a little less-than-hopeful (it was hard to feel altogether confident about the show’s future when it already aired a series finale), that makes it all the more amazing that we’re getting more now!

If you missed it…

There is a little more news to report in terms of guest stars for the movie! Yesterday, we reported that the legendary Ralph Macchio is going to be coming back to Psych reprising one of his former roles. (Yes, he played more than one character — we always wish in retrospect that he played a different role every year a la Tom Cavanagh on The Flash.)
