Saturn Awards 2017: Outlander, Andrew Lincoln, Candice Patton win big

Saturn Awards

The 2017 Saturn Awards were held on Wednesday night, and by and large, this is an awards show that we appreciate because of its recognition of so many underrated shows. Science fiction and fantasy are genres that for so many are an ultimate escape, and as we see projects become increasingly ambitious, we hope that there are even more rewards that are reaped from some of these productions both in this and beyond.

Below, you can see some of the winners from the event, which certainly do make us happy as a viewer of Outlander, The Flash, and many other shows.

Best Science Fiction Television Series – Westworld (HBO).

Best Fantasy Television Series – Outlander (Starz). In between this and the People’s Choice Awards, a rather big win in terms of awards shows.

Best Horror Television Series – The Walking Dead (AMC).

Best Action / Thriller Television Series – Riverdale (The CW). We wouldn’t call it action per se, but it definitely does suit the “thriller” label rather well.

Best Superhero Adaptation – Supergirl (The CW).

Best Presentation on Television – 11.22.63 (Hulu). The funny thing is that there are probably plenty of people who haven’t even discovered this series yet.

Best New Media Television Series – Stranger Things / Luke Cage (Netflix, tie). They’re pretty different series, so they should be able to share a title.

Best Actor on a Television Series – Andrew Lincoln, The Walking Dead (AMC). There were a ton of great nominees this year, but we will give Lincoln credit for one of his best years on the zombie drama.

Best Actress in a Television Series – Melissa Benoist, Supergirl (The CW). Same thing about the wide array of nominees. Given that this show does provide so much lightness and cheer to many people, we understand the pick.

Best Supporting Actor in a Television Series – Ed Harris, Westworld (HBO). No disagreement here.

Best Supporting Actress in a Television Series – Candice Patton, The Flash (The CW). This one makes us very happy, since she has a challenge of being a person without powers on a show full of them.

Younger Actor in a Television Series – Millie Bobby Brown, Stranger Things (Netflix).

Guest Performance on a Television Series – Jeffrey Dean Morgan, The Walking Dead (AMC).

Animated Series – Star Wars: Rebels (Disney XD). Love Star Wars, but over BoJack Horseman? Really?
