Over the past year, there have been few network dramas with as strange of a path on TV as “Bones.” The show was delayed until November last fall thanks to Emily Deschanel’s pregnancy, and the season was thus only given a 13-episode order initially. However, there were four “bonus” episodes that were ordered that would operate as standalone stories — the producers didn’t know when they would air, and there was some talk that they could even end up being put on during the low-rated summer months.
The good news for the show is that these episodes are going to be part of the upcoming fall season, and executive producer Stephen Nathan promises (per TV Guide) that one of them in particular is going to give an opportunity for a supporting character to shine:
“One of the four bonus episodes that we shot really kind of focuses on Angela and her domestication and how comfortable and uncomfortable she is with that.”
It may be a small detail here in the context of a standalone episode, but Nathan says in general that the supporting cast is going to get more time in the limelight for season 8. Now that Booth and Brennan have welcomed the baby and they have a longer season to work with, there is more flexibility to create interesting stories for everyone — in particular those who did not have that many moments to shine during season 7.
If you are hoping to find out the official premiere date for “Bones,” rejoice in the fact that the new (and standard-length) season will begin on Monday, September 17 at 8:00 p.m. Eastern time. To check out the full list of premieres for Fox this fall, be sure to head on over to this link.
