Outlander notes: Possible campaigns; a Caitriona Balfe chat

campaign

In today’s edition of Outlander notes, we start things off by asking an interesting question: What in the world is Starz up to?

Earlier today, the show’s official account posted an email address (see below) where fans can send them stories of the great loves in their lives — basically, their own versions of a love story as great as the one between Jamie and Claire Fraser. Why do this? The earliest sentiment is that this is somehow going to have to do with a marketing campaign for the third season, talking about why fans love the story of Sam Heughan and Caitriona Balfe’s characters.

Making this move, if this is truly what Starz is up to, is rather smart for many reasons. For one, it does further reinforce some of the most relatable qualities of the series. While there is this element of sweeping fantasy to it, remember that everyone loves a great love story and many have experienced some of these feelings in life. This show is very much an aggrandized version of tremendous love and longing; given how long the two characters have been apart, there will be absolutely a lot of the latter over the course of the first few episodes of season 3.

Outlander will premiere on Starz this September; we should see long before that if there are any fruits to what Starz is planning here? We don’t anticipate that someone over on their end is reading emails of love stories just for the heck of it.

Caitriona Balfe speaks out

You may have already seen Balfe’s interview with GoldDerby over at the link here, but if not it’s a worthwhile watch as they often do a good job at asking a wide array of questions to their guests. This video was actually recorded a while ago, prior to the Golden Globes last December.

One of the most noteworthy quotes in it is when she discusses how this season, there will be so many new dimensions as opposed to what’s been done in the past:

“Every season there’s so much that’s new. In some ways it feels like a completely different show from one element to the next … It keeps things really fresh for us. We’re constantly on our toes and excited about what’s coming around the corner.”
