Fox fall 2017 premiere dates: Lucifer season 3, Lethal Weapon season 2, more

Today, the Fox fall 2017 premiere dates were revealed, and they are a mixture of predictable and surprising for Lucifer, Lethal Weapon, and others.

As we’ve done in every other edition of our Fall Preview series, what we’re going to do here is give you all of the dates, but then also a little bit of analysis to go along with it. Note that with a certain Seth MacFarlane series in The Orville, things are starter far earlier than they do for other shows.

Remember that all times listed below are Eastern, and that things could change here without notice and you absolutely should be aware of that.

Sunday, September 10

8:00 (after football) – The Orville premiere, part 1

Sunday, September 17

8:00  (after football) – The Orville premiere, part 2

For the record, we’re not huge fans of the artificial premiere lift. It doesn’t establish any routine for your show, and it fluffs up ratings and expectations for no good reason.

Tuesday, September 26

8:00 – Lethal Weapon (new time)

9:00 – The Mick (new time)

9:30 – Brooklyn Nine-Nine (new time)

Wednesday, September 27

8:00 – Empire (new time)

9:00 – Star

As we’ve said before, we still don’t know why Fox waited so darn long to put Empire on earlier in the night so that another show could come on after it and reap its ratings rewards.

Thursday, September 28

8:00 – Gotham (new time)

9:00 – The Orville (time period premiere)

Friday, September 29

8:00 – Hell’s Kitchen

9:00 – The Exorcist

Sunday, October 1

7:30 – Bob’s Burgers

8:00 – The Simpsons

8:30 – Ghosted (new comedy)

9:00 – Family Guy

9:30 – The Last Man on Earth

Monday, October 2

8:00 – Lucifer (new time)

9:00 – The Gifted (new series)

It’s a little unusual that Fox opted to wait past the first Monday of the fall to launch this lineup, especially since Lucifer may actually have more episodes than almost any other show that they have depending on what the network wants to do with it. If they chose to order 22 new episodes, for example, they’d be sitting on a pretty massive order of 26 for the entire season.
