Family Guy: pays tribute to the late Adam West

Adam West

Adam West received a tribute from his colleagues at Family Guy Sunday night. Sunday’s episode featured a rerun of an episode from March, in which West appeared, and ended with a tribute to honor him.

The late Batman actor voiced the mayor of Quehog, Rhode Island on the show from 2000 until his death. West’s character, Mayor Adam West, was a fictionalized version of himself whose eccentric choices caused many problems for the town. His final appearance on the show was in the second-to-last episode of Season 15, which aired on May 21.

Following West’s death, Family Guy creator and star Seth MacFarlane took to Twitter to post a personal message to West.

Family Guy has lost its mayor, and I have lost a friend. Adam West was a joy to work with, and the kind of guy you always wanted to be around. His positivity, good nature, and sense of fun were undeniable, and it was always a big jolt of the best kind of energy when he walked in to record the show.

“He knew comedy, and he knew humanity. I am beyond fortunate to have had the privilege of working with him, and he will be profoundly missed by all of us. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for all that you have given, Mr. Mayor. You’re irreplaceable.”

West was best known for his role as Bruce Wayne / Batman on the classic 1960’s TV show of the same name, where he played the part for many years in addition to feature film appearances. This is one of many tributes that is out there at the moment for the late actor; Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti created a Bat-signal in his honor at City Hall this past week, while NBC chose to temporarily post an episode of Powerless (one of his last live-action credits) online. They had canceled the series before the episode had a chance to air.

Is it possible that a further tribute to West could be created on Family Guy coming up? It’s worth watching out for, but nothing is confirmed by either MacFarlane or Fox. The actor will be missed early for all of his accomplishments. (Photo: Fox.)
