Fear the Walking Dead season 3 episode 3 ratings level off
Sunday night’s new episode of the AMC zombie drama ended up generating as a whole a 1.0 rating in the 18-49 demographic, which is roughly even with this past episode of the show. Episode 3 was down slightly in total viewers, falling from about 2.7 million to 2.5 million.
The big reason why these numbers are noticeable is that they show that the death of Travis, one of the main characters on Fear the Walking Dead, did not cause much of an impact in terms of the show’s overall viewership. There were roughly the same number of people that were watching the season before he was alive as when he was dead, and that is important here given that this is a reasonably small cast in comparison to The Walking Dead proper.
The good news for Fear is that really regardless of what happens this season, it’s got a fourth season that it can still look forward to at some point in 2018. What the show is playing for at this point is a chance to be a further institution beyond that, and to finally stop some of the bleeding. This is a show that has its merits, but it’s suffered under expectations that it be just like the original and its audience has steadily declined over time. The first few episodes of this season, beyond Travis’ death, are fairly promising with the Otto component being one of the most fascinating settings we’ve seen on the show so far. Whether it be Troy or Jeremiah, these characters both hold a certain degree of potential to be one of the best villains that we’ve had a chance to see on the show to date.
The next new episode of Fear the Walking Dead will of course air Sunday night on AMC. We may not have ratings updates on a weekly basis, but this is certainly something that we as a site will continue to monitor further.
