Hawaii Five-0 season 8 spoilers: New regular reportedly being cast

Five-0 season 8

When Hawaii Five-0 season 8 premieres on CBS later this fall, you could be meeting a new regular and while we are excited about new people coming on the show, we are hoping that this doesn’t mean that someone else may be leaving the group. With all the talk of Danny retiring, Chin moving to San Francisco and heading up his own team, Steve getting sick from radiation poisoning and Kono off to Las Vegas to help stop sex trafficking, it makes us a little nervous – not for season 8, but for season 9 and beyond.

Want to get some early news on this new casting? Well, know that according to TVLine, the show is looking to cast a new character who has an edge to her. She is working as a female lifeguard, but at one point she was a part of the police academy. What went wrong? Well, two things: She cheated on an exam, and she also punched a training officer. These are the sort of things that can lead to your career in law enforcement stalling out before it starts.

It definitely feels right to have another female cast member come in, given that ever since Michelle Borth’s exit capacity this has been a very male-heavy show. Grace Park was the only female regular for the seventh season of the show, and the future of Kono is still unclear after she took off to stop the sex-trafficking ring in the season 7 finale. Hopefully, she’ll be back, but this may be the sort of thing that you have to wait until the premiere in order to find out for sure. The same goes for some of the other characters, as well, given that the finale did create some major ambiguity surrounding many of the various regulars.

Given that Masi Oka departed Five-0 earlier in season 7, there was an opening for a new regular member of the cast. Bringing someone like this character in rather than giving a further role to someone in the lab may just be a way for the show to shake up the format a little bit given that lab scenes are often super-heavy on exposition more so than character development. As of late, the latter is one of the reasons why Hawaii Five-0 has become one of the best network shows on the air.

Filming for the new season will (of course) be coming in Hawaii a little bit later this year; stay tuned, as we plan to have more updates at the link here once they are available. Also we have our Emmy series going on right now where the CarterMatt staff throws out our choices for the best of the year and Hawaii Five-0 has landed on one of our lists. Head over to the link here to see why.
