The X-Files season 11: Returning writers (for now, anyway)

returning writers

Who are the returning writers for The X-Files season 11? With a show like this, that is especially significant given that it spawned some of the best. Think along the lines of Breaking Bad creator Vince Gilligan or 24 / Homeland guru Howard Gordon. There are so many great people who were affiliated with this show at one point or another during its run, and James Wong is one of them.

Speaking per Den of Geek, Wong confirms that he will both write and direct two of the upcoming ten episodes of the upcoming 11th episode. Showrunner Chris Carter is likely to tackle duties on a couple at least, and the site already confirmed that Glen and Darin Morgan will be back.

In speaking further about the show’s recruitment efforts, Wong passed along the following message:

“…I know that’s talk about people [who] might do additional scripts, but I don’t think we’re set with what those surprises might be. Everybody wants guys that have worked on it to be back and whom we’d love to work with, but everybody is so busy, you know. It’s really hard to get people [to commit]. I’m juggling a couple of things with American Horror Story, and this, so I can understand why people would be reluctant. Like, Vince [Gilligan] might be too busy, we’re seeing if Howard [Gordon] is available, but it’s hard.”

Gilligan seems like he’s forever going to be too busy to contribute any additional episodes, as wonderful as it would be. (Then again, it’s also just simply wonderful that we are getting to have episodes of The X-Files at this point; who ever thought that was going to happen?)

Filming for season 11 will pick up a little bit later this year with Gillian Anderson and David Duchovny. However, at present there is no firm timeline as to when it is going to premiere beyond midseason. Our current guess is that Fox will promote it after the NFC Championship Game again and it will air in the same timeslot it did last year: Mondays at 8:00 p.m. Eastern. It can run in that spot, and then give Lucifer a nice little hiatus in the process.
