Is Law & Order: SVU new tonight? Preparing for season 19
The show is now formally in hiatus from now until most likely September, but as you do wait for the Mariska Hargitay series to return to the air, there are a number of different things that you also need to know about, as well.
First and foremost, think in terms of the change in showrunners. As many of you have heard by now, Rick Eid is no longer with the show, and is moving over to Chicago PD for its upcoming fifth season. This was a move to help shore up that show after Matt Olmstead departed in the showrunner position over there.
If you did not hear already, the show’s game of musical chairs continued with recent Chicago Justice showrunner Michael Chernuchin coming over to SVU as the new showrunner. He’s got a great resume already that includes several different iterations of the Law & Order franchise, and understands precisely what Dick Wolf is looking for with some of his different shows.
As for some other news to note, one of the other most-important people to SVU is coming back in executive producer / writer Julie Martin. She will continue to provide some stability behind the scenes, and also come up with some more powerful stories to tell. She’s been with SVU since 2011, and like so many others in the Wolf Films universe, she worked on a number of different editions of the franchise before that.
Martin confirmed her return in a Twitter post all her own.
SVU will return to start filming season 19 a little bit later this summer, and hopefully around that time some more will be revealed when it comes to the stories that you can expect to see unfold. The entire core cast seems to be returning, and hopefully some notable guest stars will be appearing here and there along the way.
