This Is Us season 2 will stay on Tuesdays; Chicago Fire season 6 moving

Us season 2

NBC has announced some pretty major changes to their fall schedule, especially when it comes to This Is Us season 2 and its timeslot.

At first, it appeared as though the network was ready to move the family ensemble drama to Thursdays in an attempt to revitalize that night. It was a bit of dubious move then given that this is effectively the network’s #1 show now, and somewhere apparently decided to give in to reason since the upfronts first happened. This Is Us season 2 is now going to be remaining firmly where it belongs Tuesday nights at 9:00 p.m. for the entirety of its season.

One of the reasons for the reversal may be NBC’s own decision to keep This Is Us away from some sort of lengthy NFL hiatus brought on by Thursday Night Football coming to the network during the latter part of the season. Also, why change what is clearly working.

To go along with this change, NBC is also moving Law & Order: True Crime: The Menendez Murders to Tuesday nights, and with that Superstore and The Good Place are shifting over to Thursdays alongside Chicago Fire season 6. Here is the new schedule.

Tuesdays

8:00 – The Voice

9:00 – This Is Us

10:00 – Law & Order: True Crime

Thursdays

8:00 – Superstore

8:30 – The Good Place

9:00 – Will & Grace

9:30 – Great News

10:00 – Chicago Fire

The full NBC fall schedule over at the link here will be updated with the changes in mind.

This schedule is a little bit more balanced out to what NBC should be trying to do, at least in terms of appealing to their core viewers right now as opposed to taking big risks to get new ones. The return of Will & Grace alone should be enough to get their ratings on Thursday nights up, but they’ll have to remember in the process that having a bunch of people excited for the revival on social media does not necessarily correlate to them watching. There is no guarantee that you can win a number of those viewers over in this age of relative entitlement and everyone wanting precisely whatever they want whenever they want it when it comes to their programming.

What do you think about this schedule change, and do you think that it benefits or hurts This Is Us and Chicago Fire? (Our take is that it helps the former and hurts the latter.) Share below! (Photo: NBC.)
