American Horror Story season 7: First photo of Billie Lourd
The photo below comes courtesy of showrunner Ryan Murphy’s official Instagram, and it features a character seemingly suited more for Coachella than a terrifying world of monsters of other crazy things. She doesn’t seem to be playing one of the villains on the surface, but that may also be the point given that Murphy and the rest of the AHS team does love being able to throw people off here and there.
One thing that is very interesting about the image comes via Lourd’s hair color — if you think back to another recent photo of the season shared by Murphy, there was a character to be presented on the show sporting blue hair. Are there going to be effectively an American flag’s worth of hair colors on this season? It only seems right that we have red, white, and blue now that we see that winter is coming (to quote Murphy’s own comment) in terms of Billie’s hard.
Thematically, what’s known about American Horror Story season 7 is that it revolves in some way around the 2016 election, whether it be thematically or directly. The goal here doesn’t seem to be casting versions of Donald Trump or Hillary Clinton, so maybe instead the real horror story is how politics and discourse have caused the entire country to come apart at the seams, where people spend the majority of their days sitting around and created comment threads on Twitter bashing other people. There is enough frustrating stuff on both sides of the aisle to create a 3,000-word article right now, but that’s not the purpose here. Let’s just remind you instead that season 7 should premiere a little later this fall, and it’s firmly expected that Murphy will announce some further details in the days to come as the premiere episode gets closer and closer to coming on the air.
