The Voice finale: Where Chris Blue stands in winner rankings

Chris Blue stands

Where does The Voice winner Chris Blue stand in our overall rankings? In the wake of the upset victory last night, it’s something worthy of further discussion.

First things first, let’s share the resource: If you head over here, you can see the full list of winners starting with Javier Colon and ending with Chris. It’s based on several things, including performance quality during the season, relative success after the show, and also how much they stand out in retrospect. It’s a fairly fluid list given that things can change if someone comes out and has a big hit after the fact.

With Chris at the moment, he’s placed in the #6 spot out of the 12 winners. Here’s what we wrote within that article on the subject:

Chris earns this ranking because of the overall quality of his work during the season, and also what he had to overcome to win: A country singer on Team Blake, not having a big pre-show following, and being the last person to get a coach during the blind auditions. Unless someone ranked below him comes out with a big hit, it’s hard to see him changing too much.

So much of the appreciation of Chris as a winner comes from not only his talent, but also his story arc. This is not a show very often that truly embraces the deserving underdog; typically, the artists promoted the heaviest are the ones that win. Look at Jordan Smith, Sawyer Fredericks, Cassadee Pope, or Alisan Porter. It was clear from the moment they all tried out that they were probably going to win. With Chris, he never had it on lock, and that seemed to push him to be better.

For now, it’s hard to rank him within the top five (consisting of Javier Colon, Fredericks, Smith, Danielle Bradbery, and Pope) just because those five have all managed some degree of success after the show in addition to being fairly dominant during it. If he comes out with a hit song in a few months, maybe he’ll end up moving past them. What could be great for him is that he’s the only winner from coach Alicia Keys, and maybe the two will have a chance to collaborate down the line.
