Lucifer season 2 episode 17: Charlotte’s surprise; who has the key?
Over the course of the episode Monday night, where he saw that manifest itself the most was in his relationship with Maze, who became more and more frustrated with his behavior and his secret-keeping. From there, he wasn’t quite able to detect when she was upset, and then also how to properly help him.
There was also a near-miss on Lucifer’s part a little bit later in the episode as well, when Charlotte Richards told Chloe some of the truth when it comes to her relationship … but not all truth. Specifically, what she chose to leave out of the equation was that Charlotte was actually his mother. Instead, she told her that she was his father’s ex. This informs Chloe to a certain extent, but it’s the tip of the iceberg when it comes to everything that could be revealed in due time.
Remember this for the moment — if you thought that Maze was upset about secrets being kept, imagine how Chloe is going to feel down the line when some of those secrets finally come out.
Oh, and here’s an epic Charlotte cliffhanger for the time being: As the story started to wind down, she ended up committing murder. It may have been self-defense, but this is still murder and it could put her in a desperate position. Her powers are back, and this spells trouble.
The key mythology
Is Lucifer really his father’s favorite son? At the tail end of the episode, both he and Amenadiel were getting closer to discovering the key that would solve so many of the problems at the heart of the season — as it turns out, Amenadiel had it without even being aware of it! This reveal does set in motion the finale, but at the same time we do still contend that this show is better when it’s dealing with the story-of-the-week and somehow keeping the crazy grounded in some shape or form.
