Outlander season 3: Caitriona Balfe talks memorable scenes and more

BalfeIt’s not often that getting stuck in traffic leads to something good for anyone, but for Outlander fans today it led to a Caitriona Balfe Q&A session.

As is often the case with some of these Q&A sessions, whether it be with Caitriona or any other cast / crew member, below you can see some of the most notable responses to go along with some analysis of them. Enjoy! (Also, of course remember that you can visit the link here to get more almost-daily updates when it comes to Outlander.)

1. Balfe’s strongest scene – She didn’t offer much of a clue other than a palm tree, but to Diana Gabaldon readers this may narrow down the field.

If nothing else, it’s a strong suggestion that the scene is something coming in the latter part of the season. After all, there aren’t exactly many palm trees in Scotland, are there?

2. On the time spent filming – It’s true that the show has a long production cycle this time around, but Balfe is right that season 1 was even longer in between the longer cycle for the first episode and doing 16 installments. Ultimately, it just takes a long time to film a show when you’ve got multiple locations and crews! Personally, we’ll take the waiting if it means realistic locations as opposed to someone putting up a green-screen in Scotland of Claire and Jamie in Jamaica.

3. Balfe’s philosophy on playing Claire – This is a wonderful response that she gives, mostly because it’s a further reminder that the character and he person are not one in the same. The biggest thing for any actor is that you understand intention; without that, there’s no way to get yourself in the necessarily place to properly execute a scene.

4. More night shoots today – Hopefully, someone’s got plenty of coffee on standby for everyone!

5. Her favorite characters from this season – As mentioned earlier, this is the sort of thing that will make sense to some book readers — and will absolutely make sense to everyone by the time the season actually airs.

Remember that Outlander season 3 is going to finally premiere on Starz this September, and hopefully, there will be many opportunities to see some fun question-and-answer sessions before then. When it comes to Balfe’s performance alone, there are likely countless things to look forward to given the body of work assembled to date.

As always, we welcome some of your thoughts on this story in the comments! (Photo: Starz.)
