When is the best time for Stana Katic’s Absentia to air?

At the moment, Stana Katic’s Absentia as a series already wrapped up filming its first season. Yet, there are other orders of business.

For example, one thing that the show will have to — at least in North America — is find some broadcasting homes. Beyond that, there is another interesting question to ponder: When is the best time for the series, which also stars Patrick Heusinger, to come on the air? “As soon as possible” is the quick and clever answer, but there are some merits to further discussion when actually thinking about the variables.

Summer – In an ideal world, it’d be fantastic to see the show start in early July — however, it’s also easy to recognize just how unlikely that is given that it wouldn’t give a network any time to acquire and promote the show’s launch this year. Summer is a strong future venue just because there are so many interesting avenues where there’s less competition, and there is especially a thirst for good mysteries like this. You can attract some casual viewers — you know that Katic / Castle fans will be there, but getting some other viewers could bring the show to an upper echelon.

Fall – Given that the major networks on American TV all have their fall schedules set, don’t expect Absentia to premiere at this point. However, it’s possible for a cable network like TNT (which is building a bigger fall lineup) or a streaming service. While there is some increased competition that would come from the show airing at this point, it could be mitigated by a network willing to give a deluge of support.

Winter – As of right now, this may be the ideal launch time provided that you’re patient enough to withstand the delays. In thinking in terms of counter-programming, a run from December through February could help to avoid a lot of other competition, and it’d also give the show plenty of time to be properly promoted. This could even be a time a major network could be interested, given that there are plenty of holes in the schedule around this time.

Spring – This is a tough time for any show to premiere. Temperatures are warming, and there aren’t too many casual viewers willing to sit at home versus spend time outside. There’s also a ton of competition. For all of these reasons (plus the wait’s FAR too long), let’s look at one of the other seasons.
