Apparently, there is no more drama as to whether or not Nicole Scherzinger will appear on The X Factor for this coming season.
According to a new report coming in right now via British tabloid The Sun, the current judge will be reprising her role for the upcoming season later this year. Remember those rumors out there suggesting that Mariah Carey could be coming on in some shape or form? As it turns out, this was every bit speculation as many people out there thought.
In a statement per the aforementioned publication, a source had the following to say:
“Nicole is so highly thought off by X Factor that there was always the intention to tie her down for another year. Once she heard other names being mentioned, she was keen to get her deal locked down and it’s now there to sign.
“Mariah’s name is still in the frame and, given it’s X Factor, it’s safer not to rule anything out.”
When you consider this, it’s very well possible that Carey could turn up — but it’s doubtful. Remember that with this franchise, there are almost always rumors about there being a fifth judge and they rarely ever materialize into anything. Much of the rumor mill is often bluster, creating a convenient way for people to stir up some conversation about the series and what could be coming up moving into the future.
One other reason that continues to make us having some doubts about the odds of Carey joining the show is some of the memories that we have about her on American Idol in the past. Specifically, she made it very well clear on a number of occasions that she hated being a part of that show. Therefore, it’s rather hard to envision many scenarios where she’d love to jump back into the genre, even if one of her biggest problems seemed to be a feud with Nicki Minaj more so than anything with the contestants themselves.
The new season of The X Factor will premiere a little later this year over on ITV.
