New Arrow season 5 finale trailer teases Manu Bennet’s Slade, a showdown

Arrow season 5 finale trailer

Ready for a new Arrow season 5 finale trailer? The CW released a minute-long preview for “Liam Yu” on Friday, and it’s awesome and then some.

At this point, the network knows what the main event of the episode is just as much as Oliver Queen versus Adrian Chase: The return of Manu Bennett as Slade Wilson. It’s his first proper appearance since season 3, and the first time in even longer where he wasn’t a complete adversary to Oliver. The Green Arrow visits his cell in hopes of securing his help taking down Prometheus once and for all — his response is both chilling and also incredibly exciting. There’s just something about the on-screen chemistry of Stephen Amell and Bennett that is completely off the charts, and that’s why Slade / Deathstroke became one of the best villains in the history of the show.

Could this set the stage for more Deathstroke down the line? You can only hope so.

Beyond Slade, another returning character in Digger Harkness has one of the best lines of the trailer when he makes a very simple point when Oliver claims he trusts Slade more than him: Didn’t Slade kill his mother? Pretty good point, really.

As for why Oliver needs to recruit his own makeshift army to take down Adrian, it’s really so simple as the fact that his own team is being held hostage, including Diggle, Rene, Curtis, and Felicity. He has to figure out a way to fight back against them, and also secure the safety of his son William. (For the record, William’s mother Samantha will also be appearing in the episode for the first time in quite a while.) Could this be when Oliver finally realizes that there’s no point hiding the truth about who he is from his kid? It’s a stark possibility.

No matter what you’re watching Arrow for at this point, the finale looks as though it has the potential to be the greatest episode of the season, and that’s saying something given that this is easily the best season of the show since Bennett exited as a regular in season 2.
