Outlander season 3 notes: Sam Heughan’s new photo shoot; a gathering

Sam Heughan's new photo shoot

In this edition of Outlander notes, there are a few different things on tap, including Sam Heughan’s new photo shoot … which will probably impress many.

While in the midst of production on the new season in South Africa, the actor behind Jamie Fraser is doing a photo shoot for the country’s edition of Men’s Health. The video below is from Men’s Health South Africa’s Facebook page, and it’s a reminder of the sort of shape Sam keeps himself in. Not exactly a surprise for the man behind My Peak Challenge, right?

Aside from his own desire to stay in shape, it of course makes sense for Jamie Fraser to be this physically inclined. It probably comes as an asset when you are involved in epic battles and having to traverse Scotland and beyond in order to stay alive!

Sam will remain in South Africa for at least a couple of more weeks presumably; the most-recent news surrounding Outlander filming suggests that production will end at some point in early June. (Once there is further news on the site, it’ll of course be reported here!)

An Outlander gathering

As many readers out there may know already, the annual Outlandish Gathering is going to be taking place this weekend at the MacDonald Aviemore Resort. This is a chance for fans to spend a few days celebrating both the show and Diana Gabaldon’s books, and partake in a wide array of events and activities. You can read a little bit more about the event this year by heading over to the link here. There are all sorts of conventions all over the world, but there is something quite fun about one taking place within the Scottish Highlands, effectively home base for the series.

Ultimately, the Scottish Sun was even able to procure a quote from VisitScotland’s own Jenni Steele on the subject:

“The Outlandish Gathering is a fantastic way for fans of the books and the show to enjoy all things Jamie and Claire in the land that inspired Outlander. I’m sure the event will be another huge success and will help keep the ‘droughtlander’ pangs at bay until the much-anticipated season three hits our screens later in the year.”

Consider this yet another reminder of the immense cultural impact that the show has on many people all over the world.
