Elementary season 5 finale spoilers: Holmes, Watson brace for gang war

In approaching the Elementary season 5 finale in one week’s time, it appears as though there was one moment that ignited the fuse. Think back to the death of Shinwell Johnson and the emotional impact this had. This moment is a jumping-off point, and as terrible as it is to lose him, the heroes of this show will do their best to ensure that what happened to him is not in vein.

Elementary season 5 finale synopsis – “Holmes and Watson pursue an elusive criminal as a gang war erupts in New York City. While the NYPD works to contain the violence, the two investigate the murder that appears to have ignited the city-wide conflict.”

It would be rather easy to discuss the future of the show at length in this moment, but for the sake of this article, that doesn’t quite matter. As viewers, the intention is to be there in the moment with Holmes and Watson, watching all of this unfold, and hoping that the two and everyone close to them manages to escape the fray in one piece. This could be the most shocking and violent episode of the entire series to date if there really is an all-out gang war. Hopefully, the episode does its part to conclude this arc, and leave open the door for some further questions. Rob Doherty and the writers had to cultivate some sort of tease at the end of the story, regardless of whether or not the series would be coming back for more episodes. This is a key component to effectively telling a great story.

The biggest hope for this episode should just be some more smart writing, and great performances from Jonny Lee Miller and Lucy Liu, who remain the heart and soul of the series and bring such wit and passion to the characters. Fingers crossed for a fantastic end to the season.
