Madam Secretary season 3 episode 22 spoilers: Elizabeth ‘helps’ Stevie
In the sneak peek below from Sunday night’s new episode, you can see Tea Leoni’s character and her daughter have a rather-tense confrontation after Stevie realizes that her mom put Russell to work ensuring that she gets precisely what she’s seeking from Harvard. From Bess’ vantage point, she obviously was doing whatever she could to help. She’s being a mother, and with that comes trying to set up your children as best you can for the future.
Simultaneously, there is a problem with this strategy in that it forces Stevie to think that any success she has in college admissions is not as result of her own efforts. She resents her mom for doing this in the preview, since she doesn’t want such meddling in her life. It’s also fairly easy to think that with Stevie’s resume, which includes doing some work with Russell, there are going to be some other opportunities for her out there even in the event that Harvard didn’t want her. When you are the daughter of the Secretary of State and are very smart and driven in your own right, there will be suitors.
This storyline will hopefully contain a few twists and turns; this is a show that is often idealistic in its approach, so if anything does come Stevie’s way in this episode, it will likely come as a result of her own doing as opposed to anything perpetuated by her mom.
As for another main component of this episode, be prepared for plenty of danger on the Henry side of things as the doomsday cult storyline heats up. Sure, the whole “Henry and his associates are in danger” angle is something frequently played up by this show, but it does make some sense when you consider for a moment his job and the sort of danger that is out there in the world.
One way or another, don’t expect to see everything resolved for Henry in this episode. The producers are likely saving a few things here and there for the finale.
