Call the Midwife season 7: See Helen George, Jennifer Kirby on set!

While Call the Midwife season 6 is airing still on PBS at present, rest assured that Call the Midwife season 7 is coming around the corner! The new season was ordered many months ago, and filming is now underway in the UK.

Despite this being one of the most serious shows out there, clearly there are still some opportunities for overt silliness. For one such example of this, feel free to look at the Twitter post below from the show’s official account. Relative newcomer Jennifer Kirby (Valerie Dyer) is seen sharing a silly moment with Helen George (Trixie), which serves as a very nice reminder that there are still some opportunities for silliness in and around Nonnatus House.

There are eight episode for the new season coming once more, and that is without even mentioning the upcoming Christmas Special. As for where the story could go, we know that Trixie’s personal life with Christopher the dentist heated up near the end of season 6. She’s the sort of character who has endured so much that you want to see her with something resembling great happiness. Unfortunately, there is no guarantee that such a thing will come her way. Part of the goal of any writer is to constantly create and cultivate tremendous drama, and there could be opportunities to do this by giving in to some of Trixie’s past vices and sending her down a dark path. The onus will be on writer Heidi Thomas to determine what she wants to do.

As for Valerie, there is still largely a clean slate; yet, there are so many hurdles that she could jump through now that she’s already taken on one of the most difficult patients imaginable from episode 7 of this most recent season. They were difficult or mean to her; she was just representative instead of a different worldview, and made it clear to Valerie that often being the best midwife is about understanding differences and working around whatever roadblock could be through in your direction.
