The Originals season 5: Should Candice King stage Klaroline reunion?

Now that The Originals season 5 is official, there are many Candice King – Klaroline questions worth pondering over. The biggest one is simple: Will there be appearances from her on the franchise? Should she grace the show for an episode or two?

The first thing to say is that all options remain on the table, which they should. You have an awesome performer in King who plays an incredible character, and with The Vampire Diaries over, the sentiment of many Klaroline fans out there is not lost on anyone. They recognize that the demand to get her over on this show is there, and in terms of circumstances, it makes more sense in the wake of Stefan’s sacrifice and also Klaus’ donation to the school for gifted supernatural creatures that Caroline is starting up on The Vampire Diaries proper. With the flagship show over, King’s schedule could be more free.

In the end, this is a decision that comes down to what the writers want and the availability of King to come over and take part. The Originals certainly has a trove of stories worth telling on their own with the characters that they have. To date, season 4 is a wonderfully creepy story anchored by a mysterious “Big Bad” in the Hollow; plus, there is a Vampire Diaries crossover coming this week courtesy of Matt Davis turning up as Alaric. There have been times over the past couple of years where it’s been easy to proclaim this the stronger of the two shows in terms of risk-taking and diving into the dark, foreboding material that you would expect when discussing vampire mythology.

More details on The Originals season 4 are likely forthcoming, and should arrive at some point at either the CW upfronts or the weeks that follow. For example, questions remain about the episode count, the premiere date, and also if this will be the final season of the show. At around that time the issue of Caroline should be further entertained.
