Absentia spoilers: The sights and sounds of Stana Katic series

Stana Katic series

Today, we come bearing new Absentia gifts, including opportunities for speculation and discussion on the Stana Katic series. There may not be a premiere date (or even a US network), but there is further cause for excitement!

The first teaser presented below comes courtesy of the show’s official Twitter, a frequent source for behind-the-scenes updates and assorted goodness. The teaser is in the vein of one of the first Absentia clips posted on the site — devoid of footage, but chock full of audio and a haunting message. The message reads “it’s not just her life she’s fighting for.” Meanwhile, the audio sounds echo thoughts of children at a sporting event or some other outdoor occasion with masses of people huddled together. There’s something about stripping the audio away from almost any occasion that gives it a haunting, chilling effect. It feels like a ghost story on loop in your mind, and it adds a sense of mystery.

This is what makes the Absentia promotional campaign stellar to date — everything in its own right is a mystery. Katic’s character of Emily Byrne finds herself severed from her life from five years, and what she returns to is every bit the same mystery as what happened while she was away. She has a child, but this child now lives within an entirely different sphere.

All in all, excellent stuff — dig into the audio and speculate away.

Breaking down a new photo

The second post from the account below is more on the fun side — it’s clearly Katic behind the scenes, enjoying her time working on the show. Superficially, there may be little to analyze … then you look at the FBI vest she is sporting. Deeper meaning exists there. Is she sporting a flashback outfit to before Emily’s disappearance, or will the bureau welcome her as an agent once more? Following such trauma, there will likely be a protocol before she is permitted to enter the field once more. Maybe Katic just put on an FBI vest for a photo because costumes are fun.

No matter the reaction, the photo is meant to generate reaction — it is, after all part of the fun. The wheels keep turning, and the questions keep building.
