The CW orders Black Lightning, new Lucy Hale series, Dynasty, more
Today, The CW chose to announce the bulk of its new programming for the fall, and it means great news for Black Lightning!
In ordering the DC Comics property starring Cress Williams, the network has now ensured effectively that they have five comic-book properties on the air; technically, that number expands to seven when you include Riverdale and the just-renewed iZombie into the mix. It’s still to be seen if Black Lightning gets included in the Arrow universe — you do have to remember that before Supergirl came out on CBS, everyone was cagey on the idea.
Take a look at the loglines for all of the series that were picked up today by the network.
Black Lightning – “Jefferson Pierce made his choice: he hung up the suit and his secret identity years ago, but with one daughter hell-bent on justice and the other a star student being recruited by a local gang, he’ll be pulled back into the fight as the wanted vigilante and DC legend Black Lightning.”
Dynasty – “The Rolls Royce of all primetime soaps returns in a modernized reboot that follows two of America’s wealthiest families, the Carringtons and the Colbys, as they feud for control over their fortune and their children. The series will be told primarily through the perspectives of two women at odds: Fallon Carrington — daughter of billionaire Blake Carrington — and her soon-to-be stepmother, Cristal — a Hispanic woman marrying into this WASP family and America’s most powerful class. In an age where dynasties appear everywhere — from reality TV to the polling booths — this epic drama features the one percent in all its glitz and gloss, while exposing the dark underbelly: a corrupt world built on backroom deals, betrayal, and, in some cases, murder.”
Life Sentence (starring Lucy Hale of Pretty Little Liars) – “When a young woman diagnosed with terminal cancer finds out that she’s not dying after all, she has to learn to live with the choices she made when she decided to ‘live like she was dying.'”
Valor – “The boundaries between military discipline and human desire are tested on a U.S. Army base that houses an elite unit of helicopter pilots trained to perform clandestine international and domestic missions. The drama unfolds in the present as well as in flashbacks to a failed mission involving one of the first female pilots in the unit, ultimately uncovering layers of personal and government/military secrets and leading to a season-long plan to rescue a group of MIA soldiers.”
