Dancing with the Stars final 5: David Ross, Bonner Bolton face elimination
Of this group, we did think going in that Simone, Normani, and Rashad would be here. The other two? Not so much, which is why tonight could mark the elimination for either David or Bonner.
If we were to examine closely why these two made it this far, it’s a combination of several different factors.
1. Interesting backgrounds – One is a bullrider, and the other is a former baseball player. It’s been years since we saw the former on the show. (Think Ty Murray.) Meanwhile, we’ve somehow never had a baseball player on the show before somehow (trust us when we say that we’re just as surprised as anyone about that).
2. Specific fan blocks – Ross is coming off of being the hero in Game 7 in the World Series. The fan base for the Cubs has not been bigger then it is right now! Meanwhile, for Bonner he’s got a fan base that is a little bit more abstract: Fans in the South. This group tends to be an enormous voting block, and when you look at the remaining field, there isn’t really anyone else who easily appeals to crowd from Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, and the rest of the South. Sure, we know that there are Fifth Harmony and Olympic gymnastics fans in the region, but Bonner relates to them.
Are either one of them great dancers? Hardly, but this isn’t just a dance competition. What matters is that they are two men who people really like, and one of them is going to be able to make it to the final four. The other one more than likely is going to be the next one to go home pending a big surprise. The reality here is that we’ve seen two surprise exits the past two weeks, so with this season of Dancing With The Stars – anything can happen.
