#FireColbert trends on Twitter after Stephen Colbert – Donald Trump joke

#FireColbert

If you were on Twitter Tuesday night, you would realize very soon the #FireColbert was a trending topic. Why was that?

Well, much of it stems from comments the host of The Late Show with Stephen Colbert made last night when he attacked Trump over his treatment of CBS News reporter John Dickerson, who he left an interview with after being pushed about his claims that President Barack Obama may have wiretapped Trump Tower leading up to him becoming President.

Here is just a small taste of what Stephen had to say.

“Sir, you attract more skinheads than free Rogaine … You have more people marching against you than cancer. You talk like a sign-language gorilla that got hit in the head. In fact, the only thing your mouth is good for is being Vladimir Putin’s c–k holster.”

Was the final part of that diatribe in poor taste? Probably, but there are a couple of things to note. First, Colbert is a comedian. Trying to ask him to adhere to a different standard beyond the occasional shock humor is like trying to tell a basketball player not to shoot for a halfcourt shot. Also, this was clearly a joke, and if you listen to a roast on Comedy Central (heck, even Donald Trump’s own roast from years ago), they went so much harder than what Stephen said here.

We don’t imagine any serious consequences coming Stephen’s way as a result of this. The worst thing that we foresee is that he has to incur the wrath of some conservative Twitter personalities online, and some of them have already uttered even more offensive remarks in their protest of him.

For the time being, Colbert hasn’t responded to some of the demands from conservatives on Twitter. It should be noted that his show tonight was probably done filming at the time in which this started to really become a hot-button discussion point online for some of these people.

What do you think about what Colbert had to say, but then also the way that many people on the internet chose to react to it? Share some of your thoughts now in the comments!

If there is an update that comes out there at some point revolving this, we’ll have that for you here on the site.
