We’ve got some of your first Law & Order: SVU season 18 finale spoilers within this article, and there’s a lot of story ahead. We’ve got some of the first news for the two hours below airing on May 24, and the big takeaway from them is that these are going to be the most politically-charged stories of the entire season. A hate crime will be the focus of the story, and Benson and Barba are going to do just about everything that they can in order to ensure that they get the desired result.

Now, we invite you to look below for the official synopses courtesy of NBC.

18×20, “American Dream” – “A hate crime against a Muslim family results in the death of their daughter. When a crucial witness in the case is deported, Barba (Raul Esparza) is forced to drop the charges against a suspect, and tensions rise between communities on opposing sides of the case.”

18×21, “Sanctuary” – “The unexpected release of a suspect in a hate crime case leaves Benson (Mariska Hargitay) and Barba (Raul Esparza) caught between two families seeking justice for their loved ones. As public protests escalate to violence, Benson goes to desperate lengths to make an arrest.”

Yes, the release of these synopses does further confirm that the Donald Trump inspired episode “Unstoppable” is not going to air this season, though we’re not entirely sure why you thought anything otherwise given the sole fact that we haven’t heard anything about it in a long time. It not airing is the reason why there is only 21 episodes this season as opposed to the typical 22. There is one installment intentionally missing, and while we’re somewhat sad about this, we’re not exactly surprised. (Maybe this will end up on a DVD release at some point down the road, but it’s a little too early to know for sure.)

For the time being, we are glad to see SVU taking on the difficult subject of hate crimes, and some of the complicated relationships that can exist between different communities. We wish we were a nation right now that celebrated diversity, but at the end of the day,
