America’s Got Talent 2017: Laverne Cox to guest judge
According to E! News, the Orange is the New Black actress is going to be around for the Judge Cuts round of the competition airing following the auditions this summer, where she will have an opportunity to potentially hit a Golden Buzzer for an act and guarantee them a spot in the next round. This is one of our favorite parts of the competition, and it’s amazing in some ways given that the middle portion of most reality competition shows tends to be the part that we often hate more than any other. This show has figured out a way to make this round stand out, and to give many of its acts a chance to shine further there as we move forward into the live shows.
Also worth noting here is the news that DJ Khaled is also going to be one of the guest judges, which is clearly the show working towards getting some of the younger demographics. Question — since all DJ Khaled does is win, does that mean that whoever he presses his Golden Buzzer for will end up getting a spot in the next round?
Ultimately, this means that we know three out of the likely four guest judges this season — one thing that does remain interesting here is that we have yet to see the same judge appear more than once in this capacity. Personally, we’d like to see NBC reach out to someone who was previously a part of the show to give them one of these spots. Not so much Piers Morgan, but we’re thinking more along the likes of a Sharon Osbourne (who is working with Simon Cowell over on the British X Factor) or former host Jerry Springer. It doesn’t seem like Howard Stern will ever be back based on his recent comments about Simon, and we don’t figure that Nick Cannon is going to be turning up in the immediate future, either.
