Given both the nature of media and politics these days, all it probably takes is looking at the Law & Order: SVU season 18 episode 17 episode title to send a chill down your spine. These stories are more relevant than ever, a result of coincidence and foresight on the part of the writers. While the story at the center of “Real Fake News” does not appear to be inspired by any single real-life event, there are several subjects within the hour that are dangerously appropriate to a contentious modern-day climate.

Also, we’re going to see Benson and Rollins in a different sort of peril than we’ve seen them in for most of the season. There is physical pain and emotional pain, and both are powerful and horrifying in equal major. Within this episode, it seems like someone is set to unleash a huge emotional blow on the two of them.

Law & Order: SVU season 18 episode 17 synopsis – “A congressman (guest star James Waterston) falsely accused of soliciting underage girls asks SVU to debunk the rumor, but the investigation leads to a real sex trafficking ring. Meanwhile, Benson (Mariska Hargitay) and Rollins (Kelli Giddish) become the targets of a salacious website.”

When it comes to the case itself, what’s going on with the congressman should make for a compelling case just in terms of where the story progresses. Trying to cancel out a false rumor is somehow going to transfer over to one of the most complicated cases that we’ve seen. This will more than likely be one of those episodes where we are mesmerized by the process, how the writers go from point A to B. Hopefully, Benson and company find justice in the end.

Promo – This gives you a better sense as to how exactly Benson will be targeted, and it may be in one of the most hateful ways imaginable. After all, her son will be put in the spotlight. He certainly didn’t ask for this, and that in turn makes it all the more heartwrenching. Yet, this is a situation that she is going to have to deal with, so here’s to hoping that she fights hard to take some of these scumbags down.
