Saturday Night Live: Katy Perry joining Dwayne Johnson for finale

Katy Perry

Want to have a further reason to be excited for the Saturday Night Live finale coming up? Then know this: Katy Perry’s coming on board!

NBC confirmed that on May 20, Perry will perform for the upcoming season 42 finale. This is the same episode featuring Dwayne Johnson as the host, and this should be a formidable one-two punch for the final episode of the season. Both have prior hosting experience, and we imagine that Perry could opt to do a sketch or two in addition to performing the songs. She has new music coming out following her recent single “Chained to the Rhythm,” and we’re excited to see what she ends up doing on the show. The same goes effectively for Johnson as host.

The final three shows in general are exciting given that you’ve got Chris Pine coming on May 6, and then after that Melissa McCarthy on May 13. All of these shows are going to be live across the same time zone, which follows up the Jimmy Fallon episode in that regard.

Of course, there are still some questions out there about what could happen in the event of a writers’ strike, given that if negotiations fall through, it could put the show in a spot where these final shows don’t even happen. With that said, we figure that this is an issue to better touch on and address when we get a little bit closer to the episodes airing. The big thing to remember, at least for now, is that we’re set up here to have a really entertaining final few weeks of the season if there is an agreement that is made. It would also cap off what will probably going down as one of the greatest seasons for SNL as a whole, even if we’re not sure how they feel about the majority of the buzz coming from people like Baldwin and McCarthy, who are not even a part of the regular cast.
