Absentia premiere date discussion: When should Stana Katic series start?

Absentia premiere date

Want to get into an Absentia premiere date discussion? Now that we’ve started to get the word out about the series itself, now feels like the time.

Since we do think that such a discussion merits a little bit of context, let’s start things off here with the following reminder the production is in fact complete. Stana Katic and the cast wrapped things up earlier in the spring, and it’s now up to Sony and all of the folks behind the scenes to find the proper venue for the series.

If we were to have our own druthers about when it would start, our preference would be a premiere date in July. Consider that you’re looking at a ten-episode series, one that you could run before the fall season officially begins. Of course, we’re talking here about an American airdate, and we are very cognizant of the fact that much of the work on the series to date has been international. (You can visit the link here to get some additional news surrounding potential network homes.)

The advantage to airing in the summer is there really regardless of if you are on broadcast or cable, since it gives you a chance to run without as much competition both in terms of other programs or publicity campaigns. The big issue that we see here is mostly that many broadcast and cable networks already have their summer schedules set. Therefore, it may be more likely that the show emerges on American TV either this fall, or potentially as late as winter if someone is looking for a strong midseason entry — unless of course someone is willing to add Absentia as a last-minute summer addition.

Ultimately, though, this is such an interesting series to write about since, as mentioned, so much of the power exists in the hands of the people responsible for making the show. They have to find it the right home and then also the right time to air it. More so than anything else, you want to get it a home that will value it dearly, and give as much of a commitment to it as possible. If this is a show with the capacity to have multiple seasons (we don’t know if it is meant to be open-ended or not just yet), we want to see it have a network that allows for such opportunities. There’s enough talent behind the scenes here that there is a reason to have confidence for success.
