Dancing with the Stars: Is Heather Morris’ elimination most shocking ever?

Tonight, Heather Morris’ elimination rocked the world on Dancing with the Stars, and we’re here to break that down further.

When thinking about eliminations that we’ve seen on the ABC show over the years, we would say that this has to be one of the most shocking in the history of the show. She went from having a perfect score on the night to going home minutes later, but one of the things to remember here is that this score doesn’t count for this week. It was only applicable for the results moving forward.

So why did Heather go home? We think it’s the result ultimately of three different things.

1. Lower scores last week – She wasn’t at the top of the leaderboard, and despite doing a dance from Frozen during Disney Week, it just wasn’t that memorable in the end.

2. Not having Maksim Chmerkovskiy – Last week, Alan Bersten danced with Heather, and the truth is that having a popular pro does at times help you stick around in the competition.

3. Ringer effect – We do think that Heather’s experience worked against her, given that some people didn’t want to support her out of principle. We get that, but it does still stink given that technically, Heather didn’t do anything wrong and deserved to be treated better by the major of the voters in our mind.

If we were to think about at someone else who got screwed over on a remotely similar level on Dancing with the Stars, we’d have to cast our gaze back pretty far to when Sabrina Bryan went home. That was a similar circumstance of a perceived ringer going home after an off week, when she was otherwise excellent across the board. It’s still too early to know one way or another what would’ve happened had she, or Heather in this case, recovered from what happened for just one week … or in Heather’s case, had Maks stuck around and not been injured in some way.

Ultimately, we do think that this elimination will probably empower voters the rest of the way, and we could see people rallying to their favorites more than ever before.
