Dancing with the Stars alum Nick Carter returning as guest judge

Apparently, Dancing with the Stars has decided that they need five judges for the coming week. Nick Carter’s coming on board!

ABC has confirmed that the former contestant, and member of the Backstreet Boys is going to be serving in a guest-judge capacity on Monday night, seemingly alongside Bruno Tonioli, Julianne Hough, Carrie Ann Inaba, and Len Goodman. This is the biggest panel in the show’s history, and while we don’t think we need THAT many cooks in the kitchen, we also do understand why it’s happening. Remember for a minute here that one of the goals on Monday’s episode is celebrating great boybands and girlbands, and the Backstreet Boys are one of the most epic, popular boybands in music history. They’ve been around for decades, and they have a huge show in Las Vegas.

Also, there seems to be a great relationship at the moment between the network and the group — after all, we’ve also seen the Backstreet Boys turn up over on The Bachelor recently, as well.

There are some more interesting bits of synergy at the moment when it comes to Nick Carter and Dancing with the Stars, beginning with the fact that his former partner in Sharna Burgess is still on the show this time working with bullrider Bonner Bolton. We know he’ll be a fair judge, but that has to be challenging since we’re talking here about someone who he has to be rather fond of thanks to their time together.

Meanwhile, there’s a contestant on this season in Normani Kordei who has a lot in common with him! She’s a part of Fifth Harmony, one of the biggest girlbands on the planet right now. She can probably relate a little bit to the experience that he had during some of the early years of the Backstreet Boys. There are obviously different sorts of fandom now that weren’t around in the nineties, but the crazy fan passion is likely very much there. (Nick finished second in his season, and based on recent results it would hardly shock us in the event that we also saw Normani finish within the top two this time around, as well.)

For the record, be sure to come back tomorrow for some dance spoilers for the upcoming episode of the show! You’ll be able to uncover some of those over at the link here. (Photo: ABC.)
