Doctor Who season 10 episode 2 video: Peter Capaldi teases ‘Smile’
As both Peter Capaldi and Pearl Mackie tease in the video, this is a very significant hour given that it does mark the first real opportunity for The Doctor and Bill to go on a mission together. They’re traveling to another planet and another time, and while there, they will encounter a few things that are truly unusual.
Specifically, we are talking here about emojibots! These are new robots who appear, at least on the surface, to be of the kind and benevolent sort. Could they be the sort of robot that you want to spend some time around. On the surface, it may appear to be the case! Unfortunately, not too long after that you may start to learn more about their true intentions … and it’s not pretty. We love the design of the characters, including the color and style of their “face,” and we love the fact that this is the show combining both old and new sensibilities for a new creation.
In general, we’re pretty psyched for season 10, even if we’re just one episode in at the moment. The premiere did a great job of introducing Mackie as Bill, and getting us to care about the new adventures that we could be going on the rest of the season. We also love knowing that in some ways, the journey is finite. There is something useful that comes with knowing an ending, since with that you can project a little bit more of what the journey is to get there. Also, there’s a difference between knowing that someone leaving the show and having it laid out in front of you in some sort of real, tangible, and potentially heartwrenching way. We’re going to miss Twelve and everything he brought to the show…
