Supergirl season 2 spoilers: Calista Flockhart returning

Calista Flockhart returning

It’s ironic that we were wondering just yesterday if Calista Flockhart would be returning to Supergirl as Cat Grant before the end of the season; now, her return to the series is official.

According to a new report coming in now from Entertainment Weekly, Flockhart (a series regular during the first season of the show, back when it aired on CBS) will be making an appearance on the final two episodes of Supergirl this season. The specifics about her return are unclear, but given that the company is still called CatCo Worldwide Media, it makes sense that she’d come back to her namesake at some point. When she left, it was largely so that she could “see the world” and try to have some different experiences for herself outside of the company. (From a meta perspective, Cat’s exit was perpetuated by Flockhart not remaining a series regular because of the show’s move from Los Angeles up to Vancouver, where the remainder of the CW superhero shows all film.)

So long as CatCo remains a part of the series, we presume that in some form, Flockhart is going to have an open invitation to return. As for whether or not CatCo will be involved in this universe forever, that remains to be seen given that Supergirl has slowly distanced itself from the company through much of the season. Kara Danvers was fired by Snapper Carr after publishing a story on an independent blog after he turned it away; meanwhile, Winn Schott works for the DEO now. The only firm connection to CatCo at present is James Olsen, who is working as the boss following Cat’s departure. We’ve wondered if Lena Luthor will become almost the new Cat for the upcoming third season, given the promotion of Katie McGrath to series regular.

This is not the only news about a returning character for the end of Supergirl season 2, as we’ve reported already that you will be seeing a return for Tyler Hoechlin in the role of Clark Kent / Superman for the finale. Beyond the fact that these people are returning, The CW is otherwise being very tight-lipped when it comes to storylines, and we don’t see that changing much. They love their surprises!
