Big Little Lies season 2 renewal closer; Liane Moriarty thinking of ideas
Speaking in a new interview with the Sydney Morning Herald, Moriarty made it clear precisely what she’s doing and thinking about right now as HBO and the show’s producers seem to be interested in continuing the Reese Witherspoon / Nicole Kidman series in some shape or form:
“I have started to think about ways this could continue … The producers have asked me to see if I can come up with some ideas. I wouldn’t write a new book but perhaps a new story and then we’ll see what happens… I’m absolutely open to it because, once I started thinking, it was too much fun to see what I could do and to see these characters again. And there’s definitely places you can go.”
Witherspoon herself has already proclaimed this project to be one of the best experiences of her career creatively, and there seems to be almost universal interest from the cast in terms of doing more. One of the big conditions was the involvement of Moriarty, given that without her, there would be no Big Little Lies story in the first place. We’re very much excited to see what it could look like, but the one thing that we’d say is to exercise as much caution as possible. You don’t want to bring the show back for the sake of bringing it back; you want to do it because you have an excellent idea that can somehow bring the show forward to another level of greatness.
Based on how season 1 ended, the expectations are certainly high. We just how that Celeste is in a better place given that, to be frank, it would be rather hard for things to be any worse for her.
If a second season is eventually ordered, we do have a feeling that it’s not going to be for a while. Without any source material, you have to first come up with the story, and then find the time in the cast’s schedule to get everyone back together again. If we’re lucky, we figure that we could get more episodes in 2019. Thinking that it could come back before then would be a foolhardy assumption.
