What is Kono Kalakaua’s impact on women? Hawaii Five-0 character reveals success amid adversity

Kono

Kono Kalakaua isn’t your typical cop on Hawaii Five-0. Not only can she enjoy time on a surfboard, but she has perfect aim. The character on the popular CBS show isn’t a typical woman doing a job. She’s a team member who solves crime on the big island doing her best. Kono, played by Grace Park, is an empowering role model for anyone who wonders if a second chance in life is possible.

At the beginning of the series, Kono Kalakaua was introduced on the team in a casual way. Her strength was being a deadly sniper. Able to hold her own in any situation, the law enforcement officer doesn’t need any help taking down the bad guys.

The backstory of this Hawaii Five-0 female character gave fans a reason to pay attention. Being a crime fighter wasn’t Kono’s first profession. She might be a sniper in today’s world, but years prior she was a professional surfer and won major competitions until an injury sidelined her. On Hawaii Five-0, her team trusts her to cover their back on every episode and she is there for them every time.

Over time, the viewers have been introduced to Kono on a very personal level and that includes her decision to marry the love of her life in Adam. While viewers primarily see her wearing a badge and rocking a tight pair of jeans, she has no boundaries. Whether getting dolled up for an undercover sting, taking down a criminal on the streets of Honolulu, or on the beach in a two-piece bikini, she can do it all.

Week after week female fans turn into this show to see one smart and sexy lady redefine her life, in her way. Not allowing others to choose her course, she gives life her all. The jump from one career to another can’t be easy. The decision to fight lives in Kono’s spirit and she never strays.

Kono Kalakaua redefined herself as part of the Five-0 team

When looking at empowering female characters on TV, Kono Kalakaua offers a glimpse of what most women strive for after being handed a huge disappointment in their lives. The confidence to know there is no shame in redefining yourself. The chance to focus once again and pursue your dreams. Sometimes things collapse through no fault of our own. Be it a layoff, a divorce or a personal setback. The idea of doing an important job in a passionate way is not beyond any woman’s reach. A new path in life isn’t a roadblock. It is merely an unforeseen opportunity knocking at the door waiting to be answered.
