The Originals season 4 ratings rise; Blue Bloods drops

Blue Bloods season 7

We’ve been covering The Originals season 4 ratings for much of the season, and one of the big takeaways that we’ve had during the process is that the show continues to show some signs of life.

Let’s start off this article with a slice of the bad news — last week, the Joseph Morgan series declined to some of its lowest ratings of the season in the finals. We first reported that it had a 0.4 in the 18-49 demographic, but that dropped to a 0.3 when the numbers were adjusted after the fact. This, in turn, dings its renewal odds.

Luckily, the ratings from last night (provided that they don’t adjust down) may send things back in a more positive direction. The ratings for last night’s new episode were once more a 0.4 rating, and to go along with that, the series actually set a season high with 1.12 million viewers as a whole. This is encouraging, mostly because as seasons go along, you often do tend to lose numbers as a whole. That’s just something that you have to come to expect, but The Originals isn’t in a position to have that happen. Maybe the fans know that, or maybe they’re enjoying the story enough that they don’t want to take a week off.

As for another slice of notable news on the night…

Blue Bloods takes a tumble

While both MacGyver and Hawaii Five-0 each kept firm to the same 0.9 and 1.0 rating that they drew the week before, the show that aired afterwards in Blue Bloods posted a 1.0. This marks one of the lowest ratings that we’ve seen for the Tom Selleck series, and it definitely has us intrigued to see precisely where things are going to go from here for the rest of the season. Obviously, the show’s been renewed already for an eighth season, so there’s not anything to worry about in that capacity.

For the record, the big winner of the night was Shark Tank, even though the numbers fell to a 1.1. You can argue that given that this was the best performance on the night, there really weren’t too many winners on the night as a whole.
