Law & Order: SVU season 18 episode 16 return date: ‘The Newsroom’
This episode will be coming your way on Wednesday, April 26, which is still three weeks away unfortunately. Hopefully, this is going to be one worth the wait given that you’ve got several big-name guest stars (including the return of Peter Gallagher as Chief Dodds) to go along with a story that couldn’t be more relevant if it tried.
Law & Order: SVU season 18 episode 16 synopsis – “Benson (Mariska Hargitay) and Barba (Raul Esparza) ask witnesses to put their jobs on the line after a news anchor (Bonnie Somerville) makes an on-air disclosure of rape against her boss. Also starring Ice T (Det. Odafin Tutuola), Kelli Giddish (Det. Amanda Rollins) and Peter Scanavino (Det. Sonny Carisi). Also guest starring Peter Gallagher (Chief Dodds), Peyton List (Margery Evans), J.C. MacKenzie (Counselor Richard Pace) and Beth Chamberlin (Gwendolyn Gates).”
We’ve said this recently, but we don’t think there was any way that the producers for SVU would know that the subject of sexual harassment within the world of cable news would be anywhere near as noteworthy and relevant as it is now. They weren’t privy more than likely to the Billy O’Reilly accusations at the time in which they wrote the hour — we do think that, while the story is fictional, events may have been inspired here by former Fox News head Roger Ailes. This episode is meant to expose an environment that ranges from anywhere from toxic to abusive — if a news anchor is so intent on getting the news out about a rape that she makes the proclamation on-air, then you know that there are horrifying events taking place behind the scenes.
