Finale Forecast: How Gotham season 3 cast set up Harley Quinn’s arrival

Gotham season 3 Finale Forecast

Today, we’re bringing you our Gotham season 3 Finale Forecast, and it should seem clear judging by the title that the focus here is primarily on one thing more than anything else: Harley Quinn … or the show’s version of her.

The commentary that is out there from the series’ own executive producers is that we’ll be introduced to the beginnings of some sort of Harley story by the end of the season … though it also sounds like much of it will be saved for a potential season 4. (Why there isn’t a season 4 renewal yet is a good question, but that’s probably a subject for another day.)

What we could see – All indications are that we’d be meeting a prototype version of the character, meaning Harleen Quinzel long before she becomes the infamous villain that she is in the present, or a character who goes on to be an inspiration for her. We used to think that this was the intention for Jerome / The Joker, but with the most recent arc it feels more like Gotham is charting a course where Jerome is the Joker, and we’re waiting for him to evolve into that.

What we’d like to see – The first thing to do here is remember that Harley Quinn seems to be younger than both Batman and her longtime obsession in the comics, so don’t cast some young adult for the sake of having a direct interpretation. At best, Harley Quinn would be a teenager. We know the show’s not necessarily canon and it doesn’t even need to be, but it doesn’t make sense to have all of Batman’s future opponents to be older than Bruce Wayne. That’s just not realistic.

We’d like to actually meet the “Harley” character in the finale, and then see the writers spend much of the summer plotting how to use her. Maybe her presence is a way that inspires Bruce to ramp up his training, or causes more recent villains to crawl out of the woodwork. There is obviously a great reason to bring back Jerome for an episode or two if she returns, and maybe you can find a way to give her some scenes with Ivy, given that in some comic iterations the two have a close relationship.

How do you want to see Harley Quinn, or a character similar to Harley Quinn, implemented into Gotham season 3? Be sure to share some of your thoughts in the matter below!
