Peter Capaldi confident in Doctor Who season 11 replacement

Doctor Who season 11 replacement

Even though Peter Capaldi may not know his Doctor Who season 11 replacement as of yet, that’s not stopping him from being confident in terms of the person that new showrunner Chris Chibnall picks.

Speaking (per the BBC) at a recent premiere event, the departing actor passed along the following hopeful message regarding whoever will end up stepping in the part:

“I’m sure whoever that person is will be wonderful … Doctor Who is a wonderful part, and they are going to make – if they haven’t already done so – a wonderful choice, whether that’s a man or a woman.”

Of course, there are still plenty of rumors floating around out there regarding who the new choice could be, but we’re not putting too much stock in them given that every week or two, all of a sudden someone new is considered a favorite. Why not save ourselves the trouble and just revisit this a little further down the road, when we start to get a better actual sense from the BBC as to what we’re looking for. The new Doctor will probably be announced over the summer, given that we imagine the network will want to debut them in the Christmas Special at the end of the year. This way, the show can continue to make the smooth transitions in the way in which it has in the past. It’s still going to have a hard time upping the ante from David Tennant to Matt Smith, which remains to date the greatest regeneration moment in our mind in the history of the show.

When Capaldi’s Doctor does regenerate, it will be even more of a passing-of-the-torch moment, given that this will mark some of the final lies written by Steven Moffat as showrunner. Chibnall, currently of Broadchurch fame, will write all of the dialogue for the new Doctor immediately after he appears in the special.

The new season of Doctor Who premieres on April 15 — thankfully, that’s not all too far down the road! Hopefully, we’re going to have some great opportunities to see some more fascinating stories and developments over the episodes ahead.

For now, feel free to respond to some of what Capaldi is saying here in the comments! Meanwhile, head over here to get some other recent news and headlines when it comes to the show. (Photo: BBC.)
